Jasper

Jasper, formally known as Junior, has now been with me for almost 4 months! Unbelievable. He has just graduated from the intermediate class at Petsmart and is about to start his advanced training on the 27th. His trainer always tells me how lucky I am to have such a great dog and that she wishes she can have him! Thanks again JARM! Kelly

Smiling Jack

"Smiling Jack's" gotcha day was August 1, 2012 and I don't know who was excited more, my teenage son, myself or "Smiling Jack"! We were greeted by his funny grin that always appears when he greets us. A dog that smiles? This one does!

He is full of energy, always wanting to play fetch with a tennis ball, tug of war with his pull toy or chew on his nylabone. Each time though, he's right by your side, often with the toy or bone on your lap. We now call him Bandit, because he hides bones and toys. He rarely retrieves them though, so we're always searching the house. Bandit can be a bit mischievous as well , finding socks, paper or just about anything to chew. Yes, he has "eaten" my son's homework!

Bandit graduated form obedience school and received the award of "Most Improved" from his instructor. As proud as we were of this accomplishment, we were a bit perplexed. See Bandit and my son and I, had to spend a whole class in time out since Bandit wanted to play with the other dogs and was letting us know. As a result, all of his lessons were now private! But, we have seen improvement in is behavior. He's very intelligent, though a bit headstrong. His instructor called him "Mr Bossy Pants"!

He loves to play at the dog park and run with the other dogs. He's exceptionally friendly and loves to snuggle. Just recently, I discovered that he can catch treats when thrown in the air. He's very good too!

Bandit has stolen our hearts, along with our socks, but we wouldn't have him any other way!

Max

My family and I adopted Bruin about a week ago and so very glad we did. We call him Max and he is such a great addition to the family. What a well behaved dog Max he is and does he get plenty of attention everywhere we go. Just wanted to drop a quick note on how well he is doing.

titan

Titan

Titan came into our lives after we had fostered a JARM dog. We thought fostering would be a good way for us to have a dog in our home and still have the freedom to travel. What we found out was that we were much happier with a dog, so the search began to find one to adopt, and we would just have to make arrangements when we would be gone. I first saw Titan when I was volunteering for JARM at an adoption event. He impressed me as a beautiful, very well-behaved little boy. After my husband had a chance to meet him, we decided to bring him home with us.

Titan has been such a special addition to our family. He is an extremely sweet dog who will do a number of tricks to get his treats. He loves to play with other dogs, take walks in the neighborhood or at the beach, roll around in the grass, or just lie on the chaise lounge on our patio. He follows us wherever we are in our home and gives us the “unconditional love” that means so much to us. After the two years of not knowing what his life was like, we are very privileged to be the ones to take care of him in the manner he deserves. Making the decision to adopt Titan was definitely the right thing for us to do, and we are very lucky to have him in our lives.

Zachary

Meet Zachary. One of three shy puppies that found forever homes through JARM. Although still a little shy with new acquaintances, Zachary will eventually become your friend. He loves to chase after his toys, is terrified of leaping bull frogs, and still collects sticks on his walk.

His best friends are Luigi, Missy and Sneakers (his two companion dogs and best friend – a cat) and has completed intermediate obedience and will tackle agility in the fall. He is a much loved addition to our family and radiates pure joy in all he does. We could not imagine our lives without the big boy.

Marvin

Hi there, my name is Marvin. I just had to tell everyone how JARM saved my life and give them a big thank you!

My story starts with Ms. Helen McCracken. Everyone calls her "Animal Control" ...ugh... but I like to think of her as the nice lady who rescues us strays, and brings us to the shelter. Well, she found me at a dumpster by the Savannah River and brought me to safety. JARM made me wait 5 days before putting me up for adoption. Something about the law, but I knew no one would come looking for me.

I was so relieved at first, and tried so hard to be a good boy. I mean, they gave me shelter and a full belly every day! But, my past kept haunting me. I never told anyone about it, and now have almost been able to put it out of my mind-- but it was really really scary! Then I heard the JARM staff talking to my trainer Carol Adams about if I was even adoptable! Puh-lease! Did they look at this face?

Well, OK, to be fair, I was overly excited, growled a lot and didn't much like the other dogs. To say that i was "a handful" was putting it mildly. Thank goodness they were able to figure out that I was feeling a little claustrophobic, so they moved me to a kennel that was open on all four sides and got me "fixed" (like I was broken)! Well, maybe a little. This really helped me calm down and relax, but the past reared its ugly head again and I got possessive of my toys and treats. I even freaked out when strangers got their hands near my face. Carol said I had trust issues and worked really hard with me on that, and my new BFF Karen who works at the shelter helped a lot!! I guess Karen couldn't resist my boyish charms, so she took me home. Yippeee! A home!

My awful past fades a little more every day. Karen takes me on not one, but TWO walks every day. I have this GI-normous back yard and so many toys. My faves are my big blue beach ball and a cool hula hoop from Carol. I'm learning lots of new stuff too. I'm way past sit and lay down. Now I can "give me five" with both front paws, and am patiently learning to "wait". I'm even beginning to kinda like the cat she has hanging around here. I figure soon I will earn that frisbee she's been promising me! That's why I am sming so BIG!

Love to JARM,
Marvin
